TP Masters…

The Travis Perkins Senior Masters seems ages ago now, but another fantastic week at one of my favourite clubs in the UK , Woburn. We played the Dukes course again this year, a course that many years ago I did in fact hold the record on-64, now those were the days!
TP made such great hosts again, and the Tours annual awards dinner was again held at Woburn Abbey and hosted by the Duke too. Its such a delight to attend it, and this year I even had an invite by His Grace to his private BBQ on the Saturday night. All that was very nice , but papered over some really poor golf in parts. In fact a treble bogey 7 at the 2nd was a tough pill, but a double at the 8th even worse! A 3 over 75 though was poor to start, 72 on day 2 was ok as it was tricky in the wind. 77 on Sunday was a shocker, 2 more double bogies and lots of frittered shots too. 50 holes of the 54 in level par , and 9 drops in 4 others! 9 under was the winning score by the way, Boonchu won by 4 from Chapman, Lane & Brand Jnr.
My last event is the Czech Open, a venue I perhaps should have won at last year but didn’t! In between all of this action was a corporate event for Water Aid at Mere G&CC in Cheshire. A splendid day , 31 team shot gun so a full on event, Jeremy Dale did a great show to close too. That will be some venue once they finish the hotel by the way.
The final VWCV day was hosted by Lymm and seemed to go well, and my first visit to Copt Heath GC in West Midlands for Sulzer was also a great day. The club is home to Peter McEvoy a famous player from the unpaid ranks, and I have to say the welcome they afforded me for the short game clinic was superb. Thanks!
My son Tom meanwhile is keeping busy as his season draws to a close, he leads the 1836 tour money list with the tour champs to come next week at West Lancs, and if the weather is like today, even the seagulls will be hiding behind walls, let alone the sheep!
Lots of events still to come for us, Srixon Pairs at Bearwood lakes Wednesday and then The RRG Group day at Formby next Thursday. Now there’s a top course if ever, and even better I can arrive in my new ‘green’ car , a Toyota Prius, even though its black! It drives really well, better than I dared thought to be honest, and 55 mpg at the mo too.
cheers A
