Defeat at Sunningdale tough to take!

Posted by Andrew Murray on Mar 17

Home now after a 3rd exit from the very prestigious Sunningdale foursomes event. I played with Tom last year in this and whilst we won rd1 giving lots of shots against 2 lady pros we fell in rd 2 to a couple of very experienced tour players.
This year we defeated Sam Torrrance’s son Dan and his partner from Wentworth on the last green, but not before ‘dad’ left son with a horrid putt to hole for victory! Tom played some terrific shots down the last few,[ as did his partner!] and in fairness we perhaps should have won sooner but for some great scoring from Dan. Round 2 , 30 mins later this time on the Old course and against a couple of cocky young guns. In fact we all played well, and there were lots of birdies in the game, we made 6 I think and managed to win on the last again after Tom had again produced shot of the day to 10ft or so. The young guys will do well, and especially if they learn the art that to acknowledge good shots is part of the spirit of the game.
3rd round was where we fell, to a tour pro and his partner Ben. A scrappy game in fairness both sides gifting the other the odd hole, until we really did gift them the 13 to par and 15 to par, and 3 putted the 14 in between! Not a good run and so , home….gutted and deflated. Hey ho it’s only a game!!! NO ITS NOT!
But thoughts go straight to Japan before we get miserable!
Next stop Kenilworth GC this evening to speak at their dinner and Torquay Friday…busy bee!
cheers
