We hosted an event for a client IVL Flow Control at Royal Liverpool GC at Hoylake on Friday, what a spectacular day! The course is just so special, the atmosphere of hosting several Open Championships is jusr running through the very fabric of the place. The walls of the clubhouse steeped in the history of the game. And…the weather was terrific too. All in all the 16 guests had a fab day. The host company also sponsor my son Tom in his quest towards european tour status, he was around all day too so it made the day , we hope even more special for the guests.

Our next event , if it ever stops raining is Monday at Lymm GC, a charity event for United Ultilities. Fingers crossed that the course survives the deluge.

If anyone is interested one of my other sons Matt, who this year is junior captain at Lymm is embarking on his first charity fundraiser- a golfatho with 3 mates, 4 rounds in a day in May to raise money for cancer research.
please see http://www.justgiving.com/LGCmarathon if you wish to support him in any small way.

cheers andrew

We had a fantastic day at Conwy GC yesterday for our annual Corporate Club event. This format has really been popular as a way of clients taking a fourball, or two to an event that we host at a class venue. We had 76 guys there yesterday, playing a better-ball format and the whole day was sponsored by Turnberry Hotel & Golf resort in Ayrshire. In my humble opinion the best of all the Open Championship venues, certainly the most dramatic and picturesque!

The guys from Turnberry support our Spring event year on year, although this year seems to have been our most popular. Conwy certainly know how to look after us all to…so thanks to them also.

The winners on a slpendid, sunny and calm day were the Travis Perkins team, with 42 points. And a trip to Turnberry as a prize- not at bad!

Anyhow, the world of corporate golf is in full flow, a day at another magnificent Open venue Royal Liverpool is next for IVL Flowcontrol, a new company that is sponsoring my son Tom in his quest for full tour status!
After that it’s Slayley Hall for my car sponsors Lexus/Toyota….busy bees!

play well everyone, cheers andrew

We have just returned from ‘The Home of Golf’, after hosting the inaugural AMG Links trophy. We played this 4 man team event around the links of The Bay, Carnoustie & St Andrews Old course, not a bad line up!

The weather was kind too, although a tad breezy for the opening two rounds, yesterday at the ‘old’ was just glorious. The unique scoring enabled all the 4 team members to play with a different partner within the group in a 4 ball better ball format. The scoring was superb for the most part, although Carnoustie showed it’s teeth in a strong breeze so took a few prisoners in the process.

All in all a fantastic trip, enjoyed by 36 clients who we strived to look after and coax around the famous links. We stayed at the world famous Rusacks hotel overlooking the 18th green, and they treated us royally too! A great trip and event so thanks to all, and of course to our sponsors IVL Flow Control. Good luck to them in their new venture.

All the best, next stop Conwy golf links for 84 guests for our corporate club tournament, oh …and a sneak 2 days at Turnberry too where my son Matt and I have to model some new apparel for them! Now that’s a first!

This years golf school in the Algarve was terrific fun, we were again blessed with fabulous weather, and 20 guys seemed to have a great time. Some new faces this year and some familiar ones too, a good mix of gender and ability also. This year we based ourselves at the Tivoli Hotel in Lagos, and played the Boavista resort and the newly revamped Palmares course. Boa I have played many times, its a really good test and has the best short game practice area in the Algarve. Palmares is all new to me since the re build. The most fantastic views from the balcony across the bay, a panorama that is unrivalled from any other clubhouse in the region. And the course was just as good, the practice ground just about as good as it gets, the putting green too! A magical place indeed. Gary Norcott is the head pro at Stockport GC, and was once again my partner in this golf school, a great pro and excellent company to boot!
Lots of guys made this a great trip, not just our supporters, clients , but also the clubs themselves and especially Rodrigo at BV, Nuno at Palmares and Ana at the hotel, a top team- thank you all!
Until next year…’cos we will be back!
This week I have the Sunningdale foursomes playing with my son Tom, a truly super event and one I really do think we can win , so watch this space!

cheers Andrew

The week before last was a memorable one indeed. My sons Tom, Matt a friend Paul and I took 5 days out to play some classy courses in the son. What a trip it proved to be, I had called in some big favours from guys that I knew and it really did enable us to play 4 fabulous courses in consecutive days. Flying into Gibraltar, we firstly started at Manuel Pinero’s course La Quinta. A fab layout especially the challenging and beautiful back C nine. Next stop Finca Cortiesan where the Volvo match play on tour is hosted. A spectacular setting, marvellous course and very challenging greens, a magical place if ever there is one.
and it got better and better, as if! Well it did, because next stop Valderrama, a legendary course that hosted many Volvo Masters and the Ryder Cup too. Fairways stimping at 8, greens about 11 and in majestic scenery and condition, hospitality to die for too! Then a 3 hour journey across the border to Portugal, and a real gem Monte Rie. Situated just out of Tavira a truly magical place and I would say the best course I have ever played. Hospitality fantastic, course design by Big Jack terrific, scenery to match too! One not to miss! What a trip we were in heaven..almost!

Back to Gib’,then home to the grey skies of Lymm.
The next day Mere, where Tom and I played a pro am, he outclassed the field with -9 62! maybe it was because of the quality of ‘dad’s trip’, I assume it helped!
Next stop for us is the Corporate club event at Delamere Forest, a great spot in the heart of cheshire, then onto the golf school at Boavista in Portugal.
It will soon be Spring, then the Masters and lots of golf days, clinics and even a bit of playing.
cheers

A whistle stop trip to the home of golf this week for me in my new Toyota Avensis!

I had a meeting at the Russacks Hotel overlooking the most famous of golfing views- the R&A clubhouse and the 18th green of the Old course. After all this time it still gives me goose bumps, being there, its just so part of the town. Right there off the road and almost amongst the shops- amazing!

A great meeting with the guys at the Hotel before an 18 hole match with clients at the 7th oldest course in the world Crail. Situated some 10 miles out of town on the extreme easterly coast. A treasure of a links the Balcomie is and one that was closed for maintenance to the members. And then David the manager stepped in and said ‘Andrew, just go and enjoy it’ ! An incredible gesture, so whilst the members played one course, my group played the older of the 2! Magic hospitality and it has to be said 5 birdies by your truly won tea and scones, in a clubhouse that overlooks this most majestic part of Fife. A fabulous day all told, then back to the Russacks ‘one under’ bar for a beer and a meal! A pretty damn good day. Unfortunately I had to leave the ‘old grey town’ yesterday at 11am , whilst it was bathed in sunshine and not a breath of wind….hey ho you can’t have it all!

West Lancs for me Monday in a pro am, then not long before we are off to Valderrama to practice, this evening though an after dinner speaking engagement at Stand GC …..now what shall I talk about, the 1989 European Open perhaps!

cheers

We wish everyone a very Happy New Year and a healthy one too!

We have a busy planning period ahead as we strive to secure prime dates and venues for a myriad of differing clients. We have several new ventures this year including The AMG Links Trophy, a new event heading up to St Andrews and Carnoustie. This is restricted to 9 teams of 4 this year due to the start times available on the Old course, the take up was incredible and was full in 2 hrs! The Russacks Hotel are hosting us all there, for what will be a memorable trip no doubt. Other corporate event will visit Delamare and Conwy, 2 of our most popular venues, as well as the Autumn AMG Invitational to paradise itself Turnberry in October.

I have a personal 1st this year too with a corporate hosting job to Doral’s Blue Monster course in Miami in the spring, that promises to be a great trip.

Valderrama and Monte Rei are my next trips in February with sons Tom & Matt, now I doubt there are 2 finer courses in mainland Europe than those two- lucky boys we are!

cheers Andrew

I hope you had a good time with those closest and dearest to you. We certainly did in the murray household, Ben back from Norwich for 6 days and Tom, Matt & Hannah all around too. Peaceful and chilled- not too bad hey!

Regarding golf, well here in Cheshire it has been wet and wild, now sometimes that may be good, but not for golf!

I played with friends in mixed event at Dunham Forest on 28th, a hole in the weather was grateful, the 29th however for our annual ‘mates’ pre NY get together at Conwy Golf Club in North Wales was, being polite, very wild and brutal with wind speeds of 35. The links of Conwy really did show it’s teeth. Such a great place though too!

Anyhow, may I wish all our supporters, friends and clients a very healthy and happy new year!

Our final corporate club event of this season was hosted this week by Stockport Golf Club, Cheshire. A delightful course even in the weather that came our way on Thursday. Strong winds and a week of rain left us all praying for some respite, but we had no rain at least! A great hearty breakfast, a 12 hole comp and turkey sandwiches to finish. Fittingly it was a TP team member Steve that won the day, that said, he has supported each and every one of our events this year! Even if partner Richard did all the scoring! Well done guys and thank you Paul , Gary & co at SGC.

On another note…

My son Tom will continue in his PGA studies and his quest to reach the European Tour, to follow his progress see www.tommurraygolf.com , 2012 will be an exciting one for him, no doubt.

On that note may we all at AMG wish everyone a very merry christmas and we look forward to greeting all guests to Cheshire’s finest course Delamere Forest in March. After that we have the Murray Norcott Golf School in Portugal, we have spots available so please call for info.

Thanks for being ‘here’, cheers for a healthy and happy new year .

We have now launched the winter golf school in Portugal’s Algarve region. Based this year at The Tivoli Hotel in Lagos, and using the Boa Vista course and the newly re-designed Palmares . This will take place in 5 -9 march, and is on the event’s page of our website.

Along with that are several others for the coming season , including Conway and Delamere Forest details to follow shortly. We have our pre Christmas bash at Stockport this year, a 12 hole comp around a really nicely presented course on December 8th. Talking of which, Tom and I played at Royal Liverpool on Monday in a pro am. Now there is a fantastic course and presented so well it was amazing. Neatly cut tees and greens, definition to all the fairways too, a real treat to play. And by the way the old fella beat the young one by a few and was 3 under par! That, it has to be said is rare these days but great too…for me!

The golf season is limping along in our weather, but the pro circuits around the world keep on going. The Far East for the World Cup, South Africa for their Open in the Serengeti and Mauritius for the Senior Tour Championship. An event I have played a few times but sadly have not qualified for this year….. now there’s a place to visit. So many places and not enough time or funds……..never mind hey!

all the best
